Tell me more about Caleño

Caleño is a range of distilled non-alcoholic spirits inspired by the sun-drenched spirit of Colombia. Our founder, Ellie is on a mission to bring joy to not ‘drinking’ by capturing the intense flavours, rhythms and colours of her vibrant motherland.

Caleño takes you seamlessly from day to night. Light & Zesty, a tropical and refreshing blend of Inca berry, citrus and spice botanicals is made for sunny daytime socials. Dark & Spicy is a warming infusion of dark tropical pineapple notes, ginger and kola nut spices for those bare-legged balmy nights.

How soon should I drink Caleño?

Caleño has a one year best before guidance if unopened. Once opened, we recommend consuming it within 3 months. Within this time frame, you don’t need to refrigerate, we recommend you keep it at room temperature.

How do you make Caleño and how does that differ from alcohol?

Alcoholic spirits start off as pure ethanol (a highly rectified spirit). Botanicals are then added through a re-distillation process, producing a really potent, botanical alcoholic liquid, which is usually collected at a strength of 80% ABV – this is then diluted down with water to the right ABV.

Caleño follows a similar process to this, however we aren’t looking to create an alcohol, but we do capture the delicate botanical flavours that you’d normally find in a spirit. A selection of carefully chosen botanicals are gently distilled, in a beautiful stainless steel drum, using well recognised botanicals such as; juniper, cardamom, ginger, Sicilian lemon, coconut, vanilla and of course the iconic Inca berry – our key ingredient in Light & Zesty. We use a process of ‘steam distillation’ to ensure we capture the essence of each botanical.

What does the Caleño Light & Zesty blend taste like?

Caleño Light & Zesty is a distilled zesty infusion of tropical, citrus and spice botanicals. Featuring pineapple and papaya tropical notes as well as our iconic golden Inca berry, which is sweet, yet tangy with hints of lemon peel and citrus fruit flavours.

Why is your bottle priced at £18?

To create Caleño we source over sixteen different botanicals from all over the world, and spend over a year crafting and perfecting our uniquely blended recipes. It has taken a long time to develop distinctive drinks that carry unique flavours, and that are non-alcoholic at 0.5% ABV. There is also a long production time associated with producing this type of drink.

Why is the bottle smaller (50cl) than standard spirit bottles (70cl)?

One of Caleño’s core values is accessibility. We’re constantly striving to make our range available in the places you’re looking to purchase, at a price that’s fair and affordable. By reducing our bottle size from the standard 70cl to 50cl we’re able to lower the price of Caleño to £18 without compromising on the quality of our premium botanical blends.

Why is the price cheaper than other non-alcoholic spirits?

At Caleño, we feel that non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beverages should be accessible for all, but still add that premium feel to any occasion. By competitively pricing our products, we’re able to make them as available as possible.

How many drinks do I get from the 50cl bottle?

We would recommend serving Caleño as a 50ml measure to give you the full tropical flavours of the botanicals. For a 50cl bottle, based on this recommendation, you would get 10 serves.

Why is the 20cl bottle smaller than the 50cl bottle?

One of Caleño’s core values is accessibility. We’re constantly striving to make our range available in the places you’re looking to purchase, at a price that’s fair and affordable. By introducing Caleño in a 20cl format, we’re able to reduce the price of Caleño to £11.99 without compromising on the quality of our premium botanical blends. It offers 4 double serves (50ml) for you to enjoy, so it’s perfect for trying, before committing to a bigger bottle.

Does the 20cl cost less to produce than 50cl?

Our beloved botanical fusions still undergo the same process of steam distillation and are matured over a two-week period to give you the best flavours of tropical, citrus and spices botanicals.

Will I get less drinks from your 20cl bottle?

Yes. By reducing the size of the bottle, we’ve slightly reduced the amount of drinks you can get from it. The 20cl offers 4 delicious double serves (50ml) for you to enjoy.

Should I use a smaller measure if I get less drinks from the bottle?

We’d always recommend serving Caleño as a 50ml measure to give you the full tropical flavour of the botanicals.

Why have you changed the bottle design?

As a brand, we are always looking for ways to improve. Since Caleño launched, back in January 2019, we felt that it was the right time to update our brand world.

This included the process of us updating our bottle labels, our website and our social media and point of sale materials. It now provides a cohesive look and feel across all our branded channels to give you the best joyful experience every time you see Caleño.

Is the new product (Light & Zesty) still the same as the old one?

Yes. We have made no changes to the spirit itself, it remains the same deliciously tropical non-alcoholic spirit that you have enjoyed since we launched.

Why have you launched a new product (Dark & Spicy)?

At Caleño, we are always looking for ways to bring more joy to your days, and nights. Introducing Dark & Spicy, with a different tropical flavour profile, now means you can enjoy Caleño from day to night, with no hangover and no compromise.
