How to spend your bank holiday weekend

May is a great month. The weather starts warming up (ok, this year we had about six days of sunshine before it was ripped away from us and replaced with April showers but we’re staying positive), and there are not one but two bank holidays – hooray for long weekends. Even better, the forecast for this weekend is looking good: a mix of sun and cloud, and a comfortable 18-21 degrees celsius – we’ll take that.

Usually, everyone would be making plans for the long weekend weeks in advance but this year things definitely feel a little different. Restaurants and pubs are finally open (inside and outside), we can go to people’s houses, visit family and friends… So, why aren’t our diaries totally crammed? Apparently, we’re still adjusting. Just the same as we had to adjust to our new, ‘locked down’ life, we’re slowly working our way back to normality.

Our Caleño team is a sociable bunch; they love meeting friends or going on adventures. But they’ve also learnt to appreciate a slightly slower lifestyle, dedicating a bit more time to what they want to do. We asked each team member what they’re doing this weekend, to hopefully give you a little inspiration. Pubs are great, but they’re not the only way to spend your bank holiday.

If the weather cooperates we’ll be having a BBQ/good old South African braai.

What do you most look forward to about a bank holiday?
It’s a mini holiday from everyday life, even if you’re not doing anything super special, so that’s always nice to look forward to.

What will be your bank holiday drink of choice?
I don’t really drink due to health issues, so I never really had a drink of choice. But I can tell you that I have swiftly made my way through a bottle of Caleño Dark & Spicy (with spicy ginger beer). Otherwise Sangria!

Mostly studying, but hopefully out for a lovely long walk around Bristol harbour in the sunshine (fingers crossed!).

What do you most look forward to about a bank holiday?
Just having that extra day makes such a difference on a Sunday evening when you realise you have one more day off. Also, just having longer to make plans with friends, now that we can!

What will be your bank holiday drink of choice?
It’s got to be Caleño Dark & Spicy with ginger ale and LOTS of fresh lime if I’m not drinking, but maybe a deliciously cold pint of Club Tropicana if out and about.

Rich – Finance and Operations Director

How will you be spending the Spring bank holiday?
Weather permitting, a day trip to the Gower peninsula followed by my first pub visit of the year!
